COB1 is a study on the repurposing of electronic waste. I originally built this lamp as an experiment to optimize the energy efficiency of grow-lights. The body of COB1 is built using an obsolete CPU heatsink. While the thermal dissipation of this heatsink is insufficient for modern computers, it is enough to maintain optimal temperatures for energy efficient LED arrays. COB1 can be hung as pendant light or mounted by floor to ceiling suspension cables.
 
Nathan Omans is a research biologist working in the field of genomics and cancer. On the side, he has consulted for studios and museums who seek to marry science and design.
