From the Maker:
After several lamps breaking during firing, Lew starting using a sacrificial slab. This helps shrink the piece evenly. To reduce waste, this table lamp features the same sacrificial flat slab used for its own firing. The small hole in the slab rests on top of the bulb, redirecting light with a tilt. The base also has a matching slab with eight wings that allow light to shine below it. Keeping these parts separate was intentional to reduce breakage and shipping costs.
Matthew Lew is a designer living in Brooklyn NY. He graduated from CCA with a Graphic Design BFA. His day job introduced him to ceramics- exploring design through a three-dimensional form. He's inspired by mid-century forms, with a focus in lighting.
